Colony Farm Regional Park
Colony Farm Habitat Enhancement Project
Transportation Investment Corporation (TI Corp.), together with Metro Vancouver Regional Parks, is undertaking a restoration and enhancement project within Colony Farm Regional Park. Construction will begin August 2 2011.
The project will restore tidal flow and enhance habitat for fish and wildlife in Wilson Farm, an area within Colony Farm Regional Park that was drained and diked for agriculture in the early 1900s. This work is being undertaken as part of Port Mann/Highway 1 Improvement Project’s environmental commitments.
The project is being developed to provide habitat for fish and wildlife and will provide for:
• Managed tidal flow
• Restored rearing habitat for fish, including young Chinook and coho salmon
• Improved habitat for wildlife, especially for birds
• Overall benefits for ecological diversity in this area
• Enhancement of old-field habitat

Construction includes replacement of culverts at equipment crossings; installation of tidal flap gates, sluice gates and a viewing structure; perimeter channel cleaning, widening and/or “complexing”; creation of new ponds, channels and swales; planting; and upgrading the pump station with fish-friendly features.  Work is being carried out in the least risk period for fish and wildlife (August to October).
During construction, periodic trail closures may be required.  Please watch for equipment movement along dikes while work is underway and respect all trail closures.  Updates will be provided as work progresses and will be posted on park kiosks.  Park visitors are requested to obey posted detour and safety signs.

Bear Island Bridge Crossing:
The in-stream work and placement of the bridge spans has now been completed. This in-stream work included the armouring of abutments, construction of salmon enhancement spawning channels and new fish habitat structures. This included an intensive program of managing species at risk and the site’s fish population. Connecting trails to access on the east side of the Seymour River was not completed in 2011 due to the onset of heavy fall rains. These trail connections will be completed during an upcoming weather window with drier conditions. This webpage will be updated when further information is available in regard to bridge opening.
CBC Trail Closed for the Season
The CBC Trail (accessed from Mt Seymour Road) is now CLOSED for the season. Signs have been posted along Mt Seymour Road and at the trail head. Heavy rainfall and a building snow pack, have triggered the closing of this trail for the fall and winter season. Metro Vancouver and NSMBA ask for your cooperation in complying with this closure to prevent trail degradation and reduce maintenance costs. Help keep the trails in good shape and fun for all riders.
