Regional Development
Metro Vancouver provides regional planning services for growth management, affordable housing, agriculture and food systems, and ecological health. Metro Vancouver also provides land use planning and administrative services for Electoral Area A.

Regional Growth Strategy

The Regional Growth Strategy focuses on land use policies to guide the future development of the region and support the efficient provision of transportation, regional infrastructure and community services. In combination with other management plans, Metro Vancouver’s Regional Growth Strategy can help meet the region’s priorities and mandates and support the long-term commitment to sustainability.

The current population of the Metro Vancouver region is approximately 2.3 million, and based on anticipated growth rates, is expected to reach 3.4 million in 2041. Strategically focusing growth within urban areas and protecting agricultural land, industrial land, and natural areas are key goals of the Regional Growth Strategy. This long term strategy was created in collaboration with Metro Vancouver’s member municipalities and other partners.

Monitoring and implementation are on-going, and include strategies such as creating a network of Urban Centres and Frequent Transit Development Areas where employment and population growth are focused, and protecting industrial and agricultural lands to ensure a resilient regional economy.
