Coquitlam Town Centre
Coqutilam Town Centre

Over the past 20 years, Coquitlam Town Centre has emerged as one of the region’s fastest growing and dynamic town centres. Between 1991 and 2001, its population increased by almost 6,800. Much of this rapid growth has been accommodated in a series of new housing developments (town homes and high- and low-rise condominiums) located in the Town Centre's core. Many new developments are connected along pedestrian-oriented streets that provide convenient links to the Coquitlam Centre Mall, shops and services, and a new City Hall civic complex that houses a new RCMP building.

Over the past ten years, the Town Centre's housing stock increased by 43 percent. Between 1991 and 2001, the number of apartments in the Town Centre dramatically increased to nearly 4,400. In the near future, the demand for apartments in the area is expected to remain strong.
Jobs
Job Chart
With its expanding office market, Metrotown continued to add jobs through the 1990s. From 1991 to 2001, approximately 4,400 new jobs were created in Metrotown.
Population
Since 1991, Coquitlam's Regional Town Centre has grown by almost 40 percent. New residents aged 10-19 years and over 35 years old are the population’s fastest growing segments, helping create demand for shops and services.
Transportation
The Lougheed and Barnet Highways link the area to other parts of the Region, and the Town Centre is well served by public transportation, including the new 97 B-Line Rapid Bus service connecting the Centre to the new Millennium SkyTrain line at Lougheed station in Burnaby.  A bus exchange, Park and Ride and a station for the West Coast Express - a commuter rail service connecting Coquitlam with downtown Vancouver – are located south of Coquitlam Centre Mall. A future SkyTrain extension to Coquitlam's Regional Town Centre is planned. The Centre is developing a network of biking and pedestrian routes, including the TransCanada Trail.
Community facilities
Coquitlam's Regional Town Centre boasts one of the municipality's largest parks, the Town Centre Park, which features the Evergreen Cultural Centre, Town Centre Stadium, Lafarge Lake, a youth park and Glen Park. Natural forested corridors with walking trails run along Hoy Creek and Coquitlam River. Other amenities include an aquatic centre, library and the Pinetree Community Centre.
Commercial-retail/offices
With over 269,000 square metres of commercial/retail floor space (including shopping centres), Coquitlam Town Centre provides a mix of easily accessible commercial and retail developments. Two major shopping centres and two well-established commercial centres anchor the Town Centre: the Coquitlam Centre Mall, Westwood Mall, Sunwood Square, and Pinetree Village.
Coquitlam Town Centre currently provides 29,000 square metres of office space for doctors, lawyers, accountants and other professionals.
